Founded in faith & love, 2010

Born from a Calling

Freedom Reins Ranch was created by Mike and Jenny Roetheli in 2010 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was created as a ministry to children, dedicated to God's purpose and designs for all those who come here — whether adult volunteer or child.

When Mike and Jenny were living in North Dakota, Mike began to feel called to a ministry involving children and horses. That calling became the foundation of everything Freedom Reins Ranch stands for today.

We use horses to teach children about life, goals, interacting with others, and showing them the love of Jesus. Every child who walks through our gate is welcomed with open arms, regardless of their background or financial situation.

"I got down on my knees and prayed that God would take this program and do with it what He wanted. I prayed for the safety of the children, and that He would guide my words and actions."

— Mike Roetheli, Founder

The Mentorship Program

Our program pairs children with mentors and horses to teach valuable life lessons in a safe, loving, faith-filled environment. Every session is tailored to where each child is — emotionally, spiritually, and in their riding journey.

🐴

Horsemanship

Children learn to care for, communicate with, and ride horses. From grooming and ground work to gentle riding, every step builds confidence and responsibility.

✝️

Faith & Character

Rooted in Christian values, the program teaches children about God's love, purpose, and design for their lives — through the powerful relationship between child and horse.

🤝

Mentorship

Every child is paired with a caring adult mentor who walks alongside them, offering guidance, encouragement, discipline, and unconditional support.

🎯

Goal Setting

Children learn to set and pursue goals — on horseback and in life. We celebrate every milestone, big or small, building a foundation of perseverance.

👨‍👩‍👧

Family Welcome

We welcome all children aged 7–18. No prior experience with horses is necessary. We meet every child where they are and walk with them at their own pace.

💛

Always Free

Our program is completely free to participating families. We rely on the generosity of donors and volunteers who share our vision for these children's futures.

Meet the Horses

Freedom Reins Ranch believes that horses provide people with an opportunity to learn about themselves, others, and their animal friends. Each horse on our ranch has a unique story and personality — and each one plays a special role in the lives of our children.

Misty

22-Year-Old Mare · Sweet & Gentle

Misty is a 22-year-old sweet girl who was donated to the ranch along with her sister Stormy by a loving older gentleman who wanted to support our ministry and ensure his horses had a good home. She loves grazing — it's her favorite thing to do!

Stormy

20-Year-Old Mare · Energetic & Passionate

Stormy is Misty’s sister and is 20 years old. The two have been together their whole lives. While Misty is more laid-back, Stormy is full of energy and passion — just like her name. She loves to run fast and is best suited for more advanced riders. She loves her riders and always takes good care of them.

Blue

11-Year-Old Blue Roan Mare · In Training

Blue is an 11-year-old Blue Roan mare with one blue eye and one brown eye. She loves people but can be a little stubborn when it’s time to ride. She is still in training for our program, so we currently only do ground-work with her.

Sinatra

8-Year-Old Gelding · Eager to Please

Sinatra is an 8-year-old gelding on loan to our program. He is a very good boy who wants so badly to do whatever his rider asks. Being newer to riders, he sometimes needs a little help understanding cues, but we’re always close by to support him. He and Stormy are good friends and get worried if they’re separated from the pasture.

Lives Touched

A desperate mother called me asking about our program. She explained her child's situation. I told her that I hadn't officially started yet, but if she was willing to be the "guinea pig," I would start her child as my first. She gladly agreed. I was more than a little nervous — what if I couldn't do this? The "What-If's" were an endless list in my head. The day came and I went to the barn early to get everything set up and to pray. That was the beginning of Freedom Reins Ranch.

— Mike Roetheli, Founder

Freedom Reins Ranch changed my child's life. She went from being withdrawn and fearful to confident and joyful. Watching her bond with the horses — and with her mentor — has been one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed as a parent.

— Ranch Parent

I came to Freedom Reins Ranch not knowing anything about horses. Now I know how to ride, how to care for them, and most importantly, how to trust — myself, the horses, and God. This place is truly special.
